GEOMATRIX
The material should have a durability indexof not less than 40 and a sand equivalent value of
not less than 75. Complete specifications for this material, which commonly is referred to asP
Class 2 Permeable Material, are given in the State of California, Department of Transportation
`
(Caltrans) Standard Specifications, January 1992, Section 68.
L
Permeable material should be moistened thoroughly and compacted to a relative density of at
Lleast 75%using approved plate- or roller-type vibratory compaction equipment.
Aggregate Base - Imported aggregate base material may be used in constructing roadways and
r L pavements and the pad beneath the pump station. It is also recommended for use as fill and
backfill beneath and adjacent to structures or vaults for which settlement of backfill must be
minimized and for the backfilling of pipeline trenches. If used for the backfilling of pipeline
Ltrenches, at least 9 percent of the aggregate base material should pass the number 200 sieve.
"L This material should meet the requirements provided in Section 200.02 of the City of Tracy
Standard Specifications (adopted November 1, 1988) for Aggregate Base (A.B.). (The City's
specifications, in turn, refer to Section 200-2.2 of the Standard Specifications for Public Works
Contract SSPWC). Aggregate base material placed for pads beneath structures and for
roadways should be compacted to no less than 95% of maximum dry.density. Aggregate base
used as backfill beneath structures should be compacted to no less than 90% of maximum dry
density. The moisture content of the material should be within -1% and +3% of the optimum,
Land the material should be placed in horizontal lifts that do not exceed 8 inches before being 1
compacted.
Site Fill—If the rade of the required excavation r
g pump station is adjusted, the req s probably will
not provide enough material; site fill will need to be imported.
Imported select fill should have the following properties or characteristics.
• All fill particles should be less than 3 inches in size.
• Less than 30 percent of the material should be retained in the '/4-inch sieve.
• No less than 15 percent and no more than 50 percent of the material should pass the
No. 200 sieve.
The fines i.e. material passing the No. 200 sieve should have a plasticity index
• ( P g ) P Y
(PI) no greater than 15.
L
I:1Project15000s153131LE W I S-MAN.DOC
