5.0 GEOTECHNICAL DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS AND GEQMATRE]C
CONSIDERATIONS—PUMP STATION
This section presents a discussion of the geotechnical engineering recommendations ons and
considerations that apply to the design of the pump station. When appropriate, earthwork and
foundation design recommendations are presented separately. The anticipated sequence of
construction is given first, followed by geotechnical design recommendations and other
 considerations.
The recommendations and other considerations presented in this report are intended for the
design of the Lewis Manor Wall pump station for the City of Tracy. This report may not
provide all the subsurface information that may be needed by a contractor to construct the
project.
5.1 CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE
The general construction sequence for the project, as we envision it, will consist of the
following steps.
1. The construction site is cleared of all vegetation and other objectionable materials. j
The existing pump station is demolished and the existing well is abandoned.
2. The new well is drilled.
3. The site is graded to provide proper drainage. Excavations are made for
construction of the footings for the pump station.
4. A pad of granular material is constructed and the pump station is built. Pipelines
from the new structure are connected to the existing pipelines.
5. The area around the pump station is final graded and pavements are constructed.
6. Where not covered by pavement, measures are implemented to prevent erosion of
the site soils. 1
We realize that the above sequence is a simplification of the construction activities that will be
required to build the new pump station. Nevertheless, the recommendations and considerations
in this section are based, in part, on the methods and sequence described above. Significant
differences in the anticipated sequence should be brought to Geomatrix's attention so that we
can evaluate their impact on the recommendations presented in this report.
I.Troject15000s153131LE W 15-MAN.DOC
5
I I
