Figure 1 is a sketch map of the disposal pond area showing the three
monitoring wells.
Quarterly sampling was performed for the first time on 18 August 2000. The depth to
water was measured in each well prior to sampling. The measurements are given in
Table 1.
Table 1. Water Level Elevations Measured in Eastside Winery Monitoring Wells
Date MW 1 MW 2 MW 3
RPE: 52.19 RPE: 59.99 RPE: 51.07
XCOOR: -1269.07 XCOOR: -574.60 XCOOR: 0
YCOOR: -590.70 YCOOR: -803.35 YCOOR: 0
18 August 2000 26.31 24.82 39.92
The gradient calculated from these measurements is 0.0169 ft/ft, 190 degrees clockwise
from North. The gradient is represented by an arrow on Figure 1.
Based on the water level elevations, MW 1 and MW2 contained about 6 gallons of water
and MW3 contained about 13 gallons. The wells were sampled with a portable
submersible pump(Voss EZ pump) inserted into the top of a disposable bailer. This
device is used for purging and sampling. While the well is being purged, water flows
into the well, through the disposable bailer, and out through the pump. The pump
discharge hose is connected to a flow-through cell in which the pH and Electrical
Conductivity are measured. When the purge is complete, the flow rate is reduced to 200
ml/minute for 10 minutes. The sample is taken from the disposable bailer when it is
retrieved. A new bailer was used for each well. Measurements recorded during purging
are shown in Table 2.
