Box 440
Lodi, CA 95241
REQUEST FOR TECHNICAL REPORT, 8 MAY2001 WASTEWATER SPILL, EAST-SIDE
WINERY, LODI, SAN JOA QUIN COUNTY
On 8 May 2001, an industrial wastewater spill was discovered adjacent to the Mokelumne River. The
source of the spilled material was East-Side Winery's distillery. Stillage was spilled over an area of
approximately 75 feet by 20 feet. In addition to East-Side Winery, Chatfield Winery is apparently also
discharging to the same pipe. I inspected the site of the spill on 8 May 2001, my observations are
summarized in the attached inspection report.
Consistent with Regional Board policies, East-Side Winery shall prepare a technical report which
addresses the following items.
• The cause of the spill,
• The material spilled and the approximate amount of material spilled,
• How the spill was controlled,
• How the spill was cleaned up and where the material was placed,
• How future spills will be prevented. This shall include an evaluation of the wastewater
treatment, conveyance, and disposal system including the system features that might allow future
spills as a result of operator error or vandalism to exposed equipment.
East-Side Winery shall submit the technical report by 31 May 2001. Please call me at (916) 255-3116 if
you have any questions regarding this request for a technical report.
,4
TIMOTHY R.
