7. Engineering Controls (40 CFR 112.8(c)(8))
Fuel pumps for the diesel tank are equipped with automatic shutoff devices to prevent overfilling
of vehicle tanks. Tanker trucks that deliver fuels and oils to the facility are similarly equipped with
automatic shutoff devices to prevent overfilling during tank loading. The nozzles on the oil tanks are
operated manually and not have automatic shutoff devices. Overfill prevention is performed through a
dip stick that gauges liquid level.
8. Plant Effluents (40 CFR 112.8(c)(9))
The only plant effluents that discharged to navigable waters at the Maxim Crane Works facility
are storm water runoff and treated vehicle washwater from the clarifier, which are both discharged to the
on-site holding pond. Storm water is inspected and monitored in accordance with the facility's Storm
Water Pollution Prevention Plan.
9. Visible Oil Leaks (40 CFR 112.8(c)(10))
Visible oil leaks that are sufficient to cause an accumulation of oil in containment structures are
identified during inspections, as described in Section IV.D, and promptly corrected.
10. Portable Oil Storage (40 CFR 112.8(c)(11))
Portable oil storage units at the Maxim Crane Works facility consist of 55-gallons drums of gear
oil and petroleum-based solvent. The drums are stored in the indoor storage shed adjacent to the repair
shop. The gear oil drums are in a metal containment pan and have sufficient containment to capture the
entire contents of a drum, as indicated on Table 4. (Note: petroleum solvent drum has been removed
from facility).
C. Facility Transfer Operations (40 CFR 112.8(d))
1. Underground Piping (40 CFR 112.8(d)(1))
The only underground piping used for oil transfer at the Maxim Crane Works facility is the waste
oil piping that runs from the repair shop to the outdoor oil storage area. The piping does not currently
have cathodic protection or any other type of corrosion protection. The piping will be retrofitted to meet
standards for corrosion protection was completed October 31, 2007 (ref table 2).
2. Out of Service Piping (40 CFR 112.8(d)(2))
There is no piping at the Maxim Crane Works facility that is out of service.
-21-
