temperature will be measured to ensure that fresh formation water is entering the wells prior to
a
sampling. Purge water will.be placed into a labeled, 55-gallon drum for on-site storage pending
disposal.
Groundwater samples will be collected from the wells with a new, single-use, polyethylene bailer
I for each well. The water samples will be transferred from the bailer into appropriate sample
containers supplied by the analytical laboratory. Following collection, each sample container
will be labeled, placed in an insulated chest withce, and transported to the laboratory under
chain of custody protocol.
j The groundwater samples will be submitted for analysis to an ELAP certified laboratory. The
samples will be analyzed for TPH-D under EPA method 8015 (modified), and for BTEX and
MTBE under EPA method 8020.
s
3.6 Well Surveying
s Monitoring wellhead elevations for the new wells will be surveyed by a licensed land surveyor to
the nearest 0.01-foot. In addition, the latitude and longitude data of the wells will be collected
' with submeter accuracy. The resultant data will be employed in calculation of groundwater
gradient and flow direction(s) and for submittal to the State of California's Geotracker database.
3.7 Disposal of Monitoring Well Installation Wastes
Drill cuttings from the boreholes will be stored inia secure top roll off bin or containerized in
marked 55-gallon drums located at the site. Decontamination liquids will be contained in 55-
gallon drums, as they are produced and also stored on-site. Soil samples not selected for
analyses will be placed into the drums with the drill cuttings to await disposal. Used sample
sleeves will be disposed of with the drill cuttings. Waste soil and water will be characterized and
disposed at appropriate facilities, based on analytical results.
3.8 Investigative Reporting
Following completion of well installation activities, a report documenting activities, results, and
s
conclusions will be generated and issued to the SJCEHD.
i
CNCD\04-28/03\SHARE\USlr\03-0027.doc 5
i
