They will put a slip cap at
the bottom of the well casing, and use a rod to knock the cap off after we have collected our sample. They
will then place the grout through the casing, using it as a tremie pipe.
John
From: Mike Infurna [EH] [mailto:MInfurna@sjcehd.com]
Sent: Tuesday, October 14, 2008 11:45 AM
To: John Cooper
Subject: RE: Lima Ranch boring abandonment
Thank you John.
Your abandonment procedures need some work. First, how much sand/and
screened interval are you planning on? the drawing looks like 5' ?
I have a concern with leaving the sand in the borehole without knowing the
nature of the contamination, if present. For 'wells' in areas of known or
suspected contamination, well destructions require removal of the contents
placed in the hole. As in removing the sand, the PVC, and the bentonite seal.
Leaving the sand with grout on top is unacceptable.
There is another option. Sand slurry cement grout is an exceptable grout
material. You can accomplish compliance with our Well Ordinance by pumping
a NEAT cement grout down the PVC well casing after your samples are
collected and you are done with the well. Prior to this, POPPING out the
bottom casing cap will allow the casing to now be a "tremie" pipe. By pumping
neat grout down this casing as it is pulled up, the sand left in the hole will mix
10/14/2008
