PROPOSED WORK PLAN FOR PRETANK CLOSURE SITE ASSESSMENT
SHELL SERVICE STATION
3725 TRACY BOULEVARD
TRACY, CALIFORNIA
DELTA PROJECT NO. 40-89-012
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Delta Environmental Consultants, Inc. (Delta), has been authorized to conduct an .assessment to
evaluate the distribution and concentration of petroleum constituents in soils beneath the Shell
service station at 3725 Tracy Boulevard.in Tracy, California(see Figure 1). The assessment is being
conducted prior to excavation and removal of existing underground storage tanks, installation of new
tanks, and service station facility rebuilding.
Soil samples collected by Kleinfelder&Associates from soil borings near the existing tanks in 1985,
and soil and water samples collected by Canonie Engineers, Inc., from beneath the tanks in
November 1985, indicate the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons. This assessment is intended to
define the extent of soils containing :petroleum constituents at the existing and proposed tank
locations. Once the extent is known, the volume of soils containing petroleum hydrocarbons can be
calculated and soil remediation options for use during the tank removal and replacement can be
Lproposed. Upon removal of the existing tanks, soil samples, will be collected from beneath the tanks
as directed by the San Joaquin County Health District and submitted to a state-certified laboratory
for chemical analysis.
1.1 Purpose
The pretank closure site assessment will be undertaken to:
Determine whether soils adjacent to the existing tank basin contain detectable
concentrations of petroleum constituents.
Determine the distribution and extent of petroleum constituents in the soils if petroleum
hydrocarbons are detected.
Determine whether soils in the area of the proposed new tank basin contain detectable
concentrations of petroleum constituents.
Develop a soil management plan for the tank-removal and replacement procedure.
0 Evaluate the need for additional investigative or remedial action.
