Groundwater Sampling Procedure
' Sampling for General Mineral Analvsis
Upon arriving at the Site on the sampling date(s), Ground Zero personnel opened all
monitoring wells and made depth to water measurements. The monitoring wells were purged
and sampled according to the procedure detailed below.
Purging was started using the Waterra® purging system with dedicated tubing that has been
installed in each well. Purging continued until the temperature, electric conductivity and pH
of the groundwater had stabilized (<10% variation for three consecutive readings) indicating
that formation water representative of aquifer conditions was entering the well. These water
' quality parameters were measured at intervals of each well volume purged. The wells were
purged of at least 3 well volumes of stagnant water. After the well had recharged, a sample
was collected from the Waterra tubing. The sample container was then identified and labeled
with a unique designation, inserted into foam holders and placed into an ice chest cooled to
4°C for transport to the laboratory.
' All non-disposable sampling equipment was decontaminated using an Alconox® solution
before and between uses. Disposable gloves were used by the geologist while collecting
samples and were changed with each sample collected.
A chain of custody document, listing all samples collected, accompanied the samples from
field to laboratory, thereby providing a means to track their movement and ensure their
integrity.
' During purging of the wells, various field parameters were measured. These included pH,
EC, Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen (DO) and Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP). The
field parameters are included in Table 3 and in the field data log sheets of Appendix C.
Sampling for Bacteria Analysis
To prevent the reintroduction of bacteria into the wells, the following procedure is followed
anytime the monitoring wells are accessed:
• Before opening the pressure caps of each well, they are sprayed with Clorox® bleach and
' then rinsed with de-ionized water.
• Prior to making depth to water measurements in each well, the water level probe and tape
are disinfected with Clorox® bleach and then rinsed with de-ionized water.
' Before closing the wells after sampling, each pressure cap was sprayed with Clorox® bleach
and rinsed with de-ionized water to prevent the reintroduction of bacteria into the monitoring
wells.
