5.1.5 Preventative Maintenance
The Consultant Field Manager is responsible for documenting the maintenance of all field
equipment according to the manufacturer's specifications. Scheduled maintenance will be
performed by appropriately trained personnel. Calibration, use, and field equipment maintenance
procedures are provided in the FSP. The analytical laboratory is responsible for all analytical
equipment calibration and maintenance as described in the QA plan. Subcontractors are
responsible for maintenance of all equipment needed to implement their scopes of work.
5.2 Precision,Accuracy, Representativeness, Comparability, and Completeness
The elements of data quality will be evaluated as discussed in the following subsections. If
laboratory-specific precision and accuracy limits are not specified, then the QC limits presented
in the following sections must be met.
5.2.1 Precision
Precision measures the reproducibility of repetitive measurements. It is defined as the degree of
mutual agreement among independent measurements as a result of the repeated application of the
sample process under similar conditions.
Analytical precision is a measurement of the variability associated with duplicate or replicate
analyses of the same sample in the laboratory and is determined by analysis of laboratory 00
samples, such as duplicate control samples, matrix spike duplicates, or field sample duplicates. If
the recoveries of analytes in the specified control samples are comparable within established
control limits, then precision is within limits.
Total precision is a measurement of the variability associated with the entire sampling and
analytical process. It is determined by analysis of duplicate or replicate field samples and
measures variability introduced by both the laboratory and field procedures. Field duplicate
samples are analyzed to assess field and analytical precision.
Environmental/LNC/workplan/Appendix3.wpd 9
