construction diagrams for the shallow SVE wells are presented as Figure 14. Locations of the
wells are presented in Figure 11.
6.2.4 Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation and Development
One 2-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC groundwater monitoring well will be drilled and
completed(LNC-MW 1) in the southern portion of the LNC site (Figure 11). The groundwater
monitoring well will be drilled to a depth of 60 feet bgs. It is anticipated that the lower 20 feet of
the well will be screened spanning the first groundwater bearing zone with 10 feet below the
water surface and 10 feet above the groundwater surface. Blank casing will be placed in the
wellbore to the surface.
A coarse-sand filter pack will be placed from the bottom of the screen zone up to approximately
2-feet above the top of screen interval. A bentonite seal approximately 2-feet thick will be
placed on top of the sand pack, and cement-bentonite grout will seal the remaining annular space.
A completion plan for the monitoring well is depicted in Figure 16.
Approximately forty-eight (48) hours after installation, the groundwater monitoring well will be
developed to remove fines and settle the filter pack. This will be accomplished using the `surge
blocking and bailing' method and/or pumping using a submersible pump. It is anticipated that at
least ten(10)well casing volumes will be removed from the well during development.Groundwater
quality parameters of pH, temperature, electrical conductivity and dissolved oxygen will be
monitored during development and recorded on a well development form.
Purged groundwater will be placed in a series of 55-gallon USDOT approved drums and labeled.
Main\D:AEnvironmentaI\LNCV\10152007.wpd 38
