9.6 Laboratory Quality Assurance
All samples collected during this project will be analyzed for the selected parameters in
accordance with standard methods found in USEPA manuals, Standard Methods for the
Examination of Water and Wastewater, or other standard accepted methods.
9.7 Data Validation and Reporting
All raw data collected from project sampling tasks and used in project reports will be
appropriately identified and will be included in a separate appendix within the final report.
Where test data have been reduced, the method of reduction will be described in the report. The
reduction scheme for test results of collected samples will consist of the following tasks:
• Regarding precision:
-Examining replicate samples for differences in inter- and intrasample scatter
-Determining if sampling or analytical error has occurred by comparing scatter of
replicate samples.
-Because of the nature of soil, the variability of contaminant levels detected in replicate
soil samples may be large. In addition, meaningfulness of a given percent variability
depends upon the concentrations detected. For example, 2 ppb and 4 ppb vary by
100 percent, but the difference may be inconsequential. A 100 percent variance at a
higher concentration, say 100 ppm and 200 ppm, may be of importance. This applies to
both soil and groundwater samples. For these reasons, precise numbers for split
and replicate precision targets cannot be given.
-The design of the sampling plan is biased in that sampling points are located in areas
where contamination is suspected.
