' Section 9 ONSITE Environmental Laboratories Inc Revision 0 ' Quality Assurance Plan February 15, 1996 Page 2 of 2 9 1 4 Reporting Limit The Reporting Lirrut (RL) is the hilt ONSITE uses in the final report The RL is generally less than 115 the action lurut of the regulatory compound RLs are method specific and may be elevated for samples with high matrix interferences 92 Procedures for Setting Limits ' 92 1 The procedures used by the laboratory to set reporting limits are based upon the Definitions and Procedure for the Determination of the Method Detection Limits in the Methods for the Organic Cherrucal Analysts of Murucipal and Industrial Wastewater, Appendix 4A, and upon Guidelines Establishing Test ' Procedures for the Analvsis of Pollutants Under the Clean Water Act, 40 CFR Part 136, Appendix B, 1984 ' 9 22 Instrument Detection Lirruis (IDLs) for each of the methods are determined by performing seven replicate analyses of standards at a concentration j approximately two to three times the estimated IDL Method Detection Limits (MDLs) for each of the methods are determined by perfornung seven replicate matrix spike analysis at a concentration approximately two to three times the estimated MDL The seven replicate detemunations are spread over three days, and the standard deviation is calculated from all seven replicates In both cases, the standard deviation of the seven replicate analysis is multiplied by the appropriate one-sided 99% t-statistic 9 2 3 The Practical Quanntation Limit is determined by taking the standard deviation deternuned when calculating the NIDL and multiplying by a 3-10X factor ' 9 2 4 MDL studies are performed when any of the following occur, ' > Method modifications are made > A new analyst is trained ' > Prior to a new method is implemented ' > At the start up of a new instrument > After 12 months has elapsed since the previous study Word 6 0 locisec9 doc
