' Section 14 <br /> 4 ONSITE Eavironmen[al Laboratories, Inc Re%ision 0 <br /> ' Quality Assurance Plan February 15, 1996 <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br /> ' 14.0 INTERINAL AND EXTERNAL LABORATORY AUDITS <br /> In this section, three different types of audits w[lI be addressed <br /> ' > Performance Audits <br /> ' > Systems Audits <br /> > Third Parry or Client audits <br /> ' 141 A Performance Audit is an audit based upon a set of blind samples sent to the <br /> laboratory by another parry These samples are also known as Performance Evaluation <br /> or PE samples Analyte concentrations in the samples are known by the sender but not <br /> by the laboratory, and the laboratory's results are compared to the [rue value or <br /> acceptance range <br /> 14 1 1 ONSITE evaluates the performance of all chemists and technicians before they <br /> analyze samples This is done through the analysis of a PE sample, where the <br /> concentration is known to the Laboratory Director or Laboratory Manager, but <br /> not the chemist Results of the PE are kept in the training file of the chemist <br /> 14 1 2 ONSITE also participates in EPA's Water Pollution (WP) studies on a biannual <br /> ' basis The results are tabulated by EPA and corrective actions are determined <br /> and submitted to regulating agencies for any deficiencies found in the PE <br /> results Copies of the results and corrective actions are maintained by the <br /> ' Laboratory Director and are available upon request <br /> 14 1 3 The QAPA or the Laboratory Director may submit a P E to the laboratory at <br /> ' any time if a review of previous audits show a continuing trend in deficiencies <br /> with a particular method, as a challenge to corrective actions, or if <br /> performance is less than acceptable Copies of the results and corrective <br /> ' actions are maintained by the Laboratory Director <br /> 142 Systems audits are performed by either the QAPA or the Laboratory Director and are <br /> ' an intense examination of a particular function or test procedure in rhe lab The audits <br /> may be strictly observational, or they may include detailed examination of paperwork <br /> ' 14 2 1 The QAPA performs a systems audit on an annual basis Reports of the audit <br /> results are submitted to the Laboratory Director who, in conjunction with the <br /> Iaboratory, helps to determine corrective actions for deficiencies found and <br /> monitors the progress of the corrective actions <br /> Word 6 0 loelsec 14 doe <br />
