(personal contact with Wayne of CWS) that they had no active wells in the vicinity Their water
' mains run in a loop along Navy and Washington Streets to supply industrial users in the area
' The Maintenance Department of the Port was contacted to determine whether the Port had any
wells in the area According to the Maintenance Department, the only active well on the Port is
a supply well directly north of the administration building, which is used for irrigation of lawns and
' other plants on the Port(driller's report included in Appendix C) The well is located approximately
900 feet southeast of Site 3 (Figure 4)
' The California Department of Water Resources(DWR)was contacted on July 8, 1999 to determine
whether they had any driller's reports on file for supply wells withing the radius of interest around
' the well Ms Anne Roth responded on July 15, 1999 with a suite of six driller's reports that had
locations near the area of interest These driller's reports are included in Appendix C However,
upon plotting these wells on a topographic map of the area(Figure 4), none of the wells is within
' a 2,000 foot radius of Site 3
' A driving survey of the area conducted on May 17 and June 1, 1999 indicated no other supply wells
in the vicinity of the Port
5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
' Three wells were constructed on the site to depths of about 35 feet each The depth to water
beneath the site ranged from about 10 4 to 11 1 feet with a potentiometric surface gradient to the
' northeast at about 0 004 feet per foot
Soil samples taken from the site indicate the highest concentrations of PHCs are in the depth range
' of 15 to 20 feet bgs, with no PHCs detected in the soils below 30 feet Groundwater samples
showed low concentrations of PHCs in two of the three wells, and the third well showed
' substantially lower concentrations of PHCs than were present in groundwater during the initial
subsurface investigation These results indicate that PHCs are confined to sediments above 30 feet
and that groundwater concentrations are low and may be decreasing with time
' No drinking water supply wells are located within a 2,000 foot radius of the site The only supply
well within the 2,000 foot radius is the Port of Stockton's landscape irrigation well located about
' 900 feet southeast of Site 3 The well has a cement seal from 0 to 50 feet and is perforated from
105 to 145 feet bgs
8 PMLIP P.
