Geomatnx also prepared the First Quarter 2003 Groundwater Monitoring Report (Geomatnx,
2003b)
During the additional assessment activities, three new groundwater momtonng wells were
installed around the perimeter of the former UST site (Figure 2) The three old wells (MW3-1,
MW3-2, and MW3-3) and the three new wells (MW3-4, MW3-5, and MW3-6) were sampled
during first quarter 2003 Also, one 40-foot deep direct-push boring (B3-14) was completed near
a location where low-level impact to groundwater (B3-5) was previously reported at 41 feet bgs
A grab groundwater sample was collected at 40 feet bgs in B3-14 No additional soil samples
were collected during the investigation, because the approved well and boring locations were
' near previously sampled and tested soil boring locations
During the additional assessment and first quarter 2003 groundwater monitoring, groundwater
' samples from the new wells and the soil bonng were tested for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
and xylenes (BTEX), 1,2-dichloroethane, oxygenates, total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as
' gasoline (TPHg), and dissolved lead The three old wells were tested for BTEX and TPHg
Analytical results of groundwater sampled from the site monitoring wells are reported in the
additional assessment and quarterly monitoring reports Groundwater samples from the three old
wells and from one new well (MW3-6) are impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons (PHC)
' Oxygenates were not detected in samples from the new monitoring wells The oxygenate
dusopropyl ether was detected at a concentration slightly greater than the reporting limit in the
' grab groundwater sample from B3-14
2.0 FIELD PROCEDURES
The following sections describe the field methods used by WGR to collect groundwater samples
at UST Site No 3
1
Groundwater samples were collected from six groundwater monitoring wells (MW3-1, MW3-2,
MW3-3, MW3-4, MW3-5, and MW3-6) on May 28 and 29, 2003 Depth to groundwater was
measured in all wells before purging Prior to sampling each well, the presence of separate-
phase PHC was assessed About 100 gallons of water was purged from each well using a
dedicated stinger and vacuum truck The wells were purged and sampled during a 2-day period
On May 28, 2003,MW3-1, MW3-3, and MW3-2 were purged and sampled in that order On
' May 29, 2003, MW3-5, MW3-6, and MW3-4 were purged and sampled in that order
i
1
1\MjECI1GO \6437 00015437-11 da 2
