• APPENDIX D
PROTOCOL FOR OBTAINING WATER SAMPLES
FROM EXPLORATION BORINGS
4
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This protocol describes procedures to be followed for collecting water samples in conjunction
with the installation of exploration borings in the vicinity of the project site. Selected
groundwater samples will be submitted to a designated subcontracted laboratory for chemical
analysis. The subcontracted laboratory must be certified by the California Department of Health
Service (DHS) for the analyses requested. The procedures presented herein are intended to be
of general use. As the work progresses and if warranted, appropriate revisions will be made
and approved in writing by the Boyajian & Ross, Inc. (B&R) project manager.
2.0 ADVANCEMENT OF BORINGS
La The advancement and backfilling of soil borings will be in accordance with the protocol
presented in Appendix B.
3.0 SAMPLING AND LOGGING
L, Groundwater samples will be collected in accordance with the protocol presented in Appendix
B. A sample bottle, provided by the subcontracted laboratory, will be filled to overflowing to
avoid trapping air at the top of the container. A cap will be screwed on tightly immediately
Lo after filling the bottle and checked to verify no headspace is present. The samples will then be
labeled and placed in an ice-cooled chest immediately following collection. Rubber gloves will
be wom by field personnel while collecting groundwater samples.
L.
A water quality sampling record (Figure D-1) will be used to record the following information:
o Sample number (or name).
o Date and time sampled.
O Boring designation.
O Project's name, or other common designation for water supply wells.
D — 1 DA981ITTROT'OCOL.WPN
BOYARAN & ROSS, INC.
Environmcntal Scientists & Engineers
Lr
