r
`moo
it
WORK PLAN FOR ADDITIONAL
SUBSURFACE SITE INVESTIGATION
FOR PETROLEUM HYDROCARBONS
SITE NO. 5 (SITE CODE 1237)
PORT OF STOCKTON
Near Port Roads 21 and N
Stockton, San Joaquin County, California
+- 1.0 INTRODUCTION
This work plan has been prepared by Philip P. Ross, R.G., at the request of Mr. Jay Jahangiri,
Director of Environmental and Regulatory Affairs of the Port of Stockton (Port). The Port
conducted an initial subsurface investigation for petroleum hydrocarbons at this site on August 4
and 5, 1998, in response to a"Notice of Responsibility"issued by San Joaquin County Public Health
Service, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD). Analyses of soil and groundwater samples
collected during this investigation indicated the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in several of
•r the borings. Based on these findings, the PHS/EHD, in a letter dated November 13, 1998,
requested that the Port conduct further investigation to evaluate the lateral and vertical extent of
contamination at the site and conduct a supply well survey in the vicinity of the site to identify any
public or environmental health threats or impacts resulting from contaminant migration from the
site. Subsequently, the Port and Philip Ross met with the PHS/EHD to further refine and clarify the
scope and objectives of this additional subsurface site investigation. This work plan is in response
to the PHS/EHD request.
2.0 SITE BACKGROUND
This section presents the site description, summarizes previous site characterization work, and
briefly summarizes the geologic and hydrologic characteristics of the site. Pertinent background
.. information, upon which this section is based, is contained in the"Work Plan for Initial Subsurface
Investigation," (Boyajian & Ross, Inc. [B&R], 1998a) and "Initial Subsurface Investigation of
Petroleum Hydrocarbons," (B&R, 1998b).
PHILIP P. ROSS, R.G.
.s.
60
