Eli
Section No. 9.0
Revision No. 6
Date 6/1/88
Page 20
4. Analysis of Split Samples
Depending upon the work plan for a particular project, split
samples will be submitted to the laboratory by field personnel.
A split sample is one which has been portioned into two or more
containers from a single sample container. Portioning assumes
ff adequate mixing to assure the "split samples" are, for all
practical purposes, identical. The split may be submitted
blind, that is, the split portion is given a different ID than
the original sample and goes through the same analytical
z scheme. There are also times when the split is sent to another
>` laboratory as a performance check.
j" 5. Measurement of Method Detection Limits
Periodically, Canonie reevaluates its method detection limits
(MDL) and reporting limits (RL) for each matrix type and for
each method.
To determine the MDL, the methods prescribed by the EPA are
employed. The MOL is defined as the minimum concentration of a
substance that can be identified, measured, and reported with
99 percent confidence. For the appropriate procedure see
Appendix A which follows this text.
