contamination at the site and its relationship to the locations
of known domestic water Supply wells, Groundwater Technology
initiated a groundwater sampling and analysis program. Water
namples have been collected from the 9 monitoring wells and 14
of the domestic wells near the site. The samples were collected
and preserved in accordance with Groundwater Technology's
Standard Operating Procedures 9, 10 and 11. Analysis of the
dissolved hydrocarbon components Benzene, Toluene, Xylene and
total volatile hydrocarbons was conducted by EPA Method 602. In
addition a general mineral analysis was conducted on a water
sample .conforming to Title 22, to provide background groundwater
quality data. Appendix III contains the laboratory .results for
mT all water sample analyses conducted through August 1986.
Initial water sampling of monitoring wells 2 and 3 was
conducted May 15, 1986. A summary of subsequent analyses of
samples from the monitoring wells through August 11, 1986 is
f
✓ presented in Table 2. The areal distribution of the total
dissolved hydrocarbon concentrations for the July 17 and the
August 11, 1986 samplings is presented in Figures 9 and 10.
i
The first domestic well sample was collected from 9135
Connie on June 13, 1986. Because this first and a second sample,
analyzed by Trace Analysis Laboratories, indicated the presence
of detestable concentrations of dissolved hydrocarbons a more
comprehensive domestic well sampling program was initiated. This
program included sampling a greater number of wells , lh total,
on a weekly schedule. Figure 3 shows the location of the domestic
wells included in this sampling program. The first two sample
rounds, analyzed by Trace analysis Laboratories, continued to
detect low levels of dissolved hydrocarbons. Four subsequent
f _ samplings analyzed by the following laboratories Brown and
Caldwell, California Analytical and the State Department of
Health Services have not detected dissolved hydrocarbon concentr-
ations above method detection limits. The analyses conducted by
{' Trace Analyses is believed to- be in error when compared to the
19
