U
APPENDIX C
PROTOCOL FOR SOIL SAMPLING
FOR CHEMICAL ANALYSIS
1.0 INTRODUCTION
ThisP rotocol describes procedures to be followed for collecting soil-core samples and
conducting soil-field screening in conjunction with the drilling of soil borings in the vicinity of
the project site. Selected soil-core samples will be submitted to a designated subcontracted
laboratory for chemical analysis. The subcontracted laboratory must be certified by the
California Department of Health Service (DHS) for the analyses requested. The procedures
presented herein are intended to be of general use. As the work progresses and if warranted,
appropriate revisions will be made and approved in writing by the Boyajian & Ross, Inc. (B&R)
project manager.
r 2.0 ADVANCEMENT OF BORINGS
L
The advancement and backfilling of soil borings will be in accordance with the protocol
presented in Appendix B.
3.0 SAMPLING AND LOGGING
Soil-core samples will be collected in accordance with the protocol presented in Appendix B.
The sampler will be washed with detergent-water solution to remove any soil present and then
it will be rinsed with tap water prior to and between sampling. Upon disassembly of the soil
sampler, the B&R field geologist or engineer will take charge of the core. The core will be
quickly inspected for color, appearance, and composition and then capped. Capping will be
done with PTFE sheeting and covered by polyethylene caps. Capped samples will be sealed
with rubber or polyvinylchloride (PVC) tape and will be labeled, enclosed in plastic bags, and
stored in ice-cooled chests until delivered to the laboratory.
Sample containers will be labeled using waterproof ink and having the following information
written on them.
A. Project number.
B. Sample number.
C — 1 D:14$1171PR0T000L.W?N
IE5tBOYAJIAN & ROSS, INC.
Environmental Scientists & Engineers
