Whfle we slated in the report that groundwater
infiltration through the waste would be approximately zero, Mr. Rosenbaum requested
clarification regarding what potential degradation of groundwater quality may occur if the
soluble portion of the native soil/spent limehare dirt mix were to leach down to groundwater. _ T
This letter addresses that concern.
,j(PLANpq' ON
In the event that water was to penetrate the asphalt or building structures that will overlay the
compacted native soiVspent fime/tare dirt mix, the water may come into contact with the
proposed soil mix. That soil mix when compacted to 90% would have a permeability of
approximately 2.7 x 107' to 6.7 x 10-" cm/sec. Therefore,percolation through the soil would be
minimal. However, if water were to percolate through the proposed soil mix it may migrate to
groundwator. The following table lists average soluble concentrations (as estimated using the
DI-WET test) of various analytes in the soil mix and background concentrations of these
constituents in wells hydrologically upgradienl from the time ponds.
Peso I of 4
20-3978.03.w41 120186794 September 25,1998
copyright 1996.Klelnfelder,1110.
KLONrELOLk t8:5 tasl MYIlr Slrcl4.5prkWn.t'x 4.f:07.4 r44 1211714Aa•17•IF 1:'t14144e IIL2l las
Z00® NOL6an8d,SNOD SIbYSN1lADY 920zB9860b 3ryd 1'0)90 la:l 88/Z0/Oi
