These wells, plus Well No. 4
and the Stock Well, would be sampled quarterly.
Sampling and Analytical Procedures
BC Laboratories, Inc. would also perform the chemical analyses
for the proposed monitoring program. The analytical procedures
used by BC Laboratories are as follows :
Constituent Method
Major Cations Atomic Absorption
Carbonate and Bicarbonate Titration
Sulfate Methy thymol blue (colorimetric)
Chloride Silver nitrate (titration)
Nitrate Cadmium Reduction
Total Dissolved Solids Gravimetric (Residue at 180"C)
Total Organic Carbon Carbon Analyzer
Ammonia Distillation and Nesslerization
or titrimetric
Boron Carmine or Azo methine H
Trace Metals Atomic Absorption
For quality control, concentrations of major cations and anions are
converted to milliequivalents per liter. The sum of the cations
concentration is then compared to the sum of the anions and
compared to criteria in Standard Methods . In addition, total
dissolved solids (TDS ) contents are calculated by summing the
concentrations in mg/l of all constituents, using one-half of the
bicarbonate. This calculated TDS value is then compared to the
value determined by evaporation to a residue at 180°C. In addi-
tion, the ratio of TDS to electrical conductivity is calculated and
evaluated for reasonableness. Unusual values for any constituent
are reported to the laboratory and re-checked for accuracy.
Chain-of-Custody
Chain-of-custody procedures will be followed throughout the
