During the course of their
investigation, Dames & Moore did over 130 borings in homeowners yards and drilled
17 ground water monitoring wells in and around the park. Samples were taken from
each hole to determine the location and concentration of any oily dirt and water.
Several soil and ground water samples were submitted for extensive chemical
analyses and tests with laboratories certified by the Department of Health Services
(DOHS).
Dames & Moore is currently writing a site assessment report which will contain all
of their findings. Their report will be finished this month and copies given to the
City of Tracy and all involved government agencies. We will also put copies of the
report in the Tracy Library so you have access to the report.
Department of Health Services Meeting
Chevron scientists and health experts analyzed the test results of the soil and
ground water samples and determined that the oily dirt and water are non-
hazardous. On July 16, 1987, Chevron presented these findings to the DOHS, the
Regional Water Quality Control Board, the Local County Health Department and
the City of Tracy. We are waiting for the DOHS to give us their evaluation of the
test results.
Mitigation (Cleanup) Plan Development
Chevron scientists are currently investigating different technologies for cleaning
up the Alden Park area in order to develop a mitigation plan. Our objective is to
have a completed mitigation plan by early October. We will then present the plan
to the involved government agencies and the City of Tracy and begin clean up once
the plan has been approved.
