Additional Site Assessment and Soil Vapor Extraction Feasibility Work Plan
Former MEL BOKIDES PETROLEUM - LINDEN
8203 East Highway 26, Stockton, California
1.0. INTRODUCTION
At the request of Mr. Nick Bokides of Mel Bokides Petroleum, Advanced GeoEnvironmental,
Inc.(AGE) has prepared this work plan for additional site assessment and soil vapor extraction
feasibility testing the property located at 8203 East Highway 26, Stockton, California. AGE proposes
to advance two soil borings, install an six soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells, perform two SVE pilot
tests and prepare a report of findings. The location of the site is illustrated on figure 1 and a plan of
the site is illustrated on Figure 2.
This work plan is prepared at the request of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department (.F.HD) by letter dated 09 July 2002, and is in accordance with Central Valley Regional
Water Quality Control Board(CVRWQCB) guidelines for the investigation of underground storage
tank (UST) sites.
2.0. BACKGROUND
A gasoline station and mini-mart formerly occupied the site. The site is bounded on the north by a
residential property, on the east by Alpine Road and on the south by State Highway 26, commercial
properties are located east and west of the site.
Three USTs and associated piping and a dispenser island were removed from the site on 07 May
1999. High concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g), volatile
aromatics(benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes: BTEX)and the fuel oxygenating compounds
methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE) and tertiary butanol(TBA)were detected in selected soil samples
collected from the former UST excavation.
On 21 March 2000, 195 metric tons of impacted soil was over-excavated and disposed f-om the
former UST location by AGE. Analytical results of selected soil samples detected the presence of
TPH-g at a maximum concentration of 23,000 mg/kg, BTEX compounds at concentrations ranging
from 56 mQrkg of benzene to 2,900 mg/kg of xylenes, and MTBE at a maximum concentration of 140
mg/kg. In addition, test-amyl methyl ether (TAME) and TBA. were detected at maximum
concentrations of 9.2 nig/kg and 6.1 mg/kg, respectively. The highest concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons compounds were detected in samples collected from the western wall of the former
excavation. bower concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline were also detected in the
floor sample and samples collected from the north and west sidewalls. AGE calculated that
approximately 126 gallons of gasoline were removed during soil aver-excavation.
On 15 through 17 October 2001, six soil borings were advanced at the site. Three soil borings (BI,
B2 and 133) were established as ground water monitoring wells; two soil borings (BS and 136) were
.$dvaticed C'eoEiivironmentai,Inc.
