Site Health and Safety Plan
ENSAFE RS&H
Stockton Metropolitan Airport, Stockton, California
January 27, 2020
10.0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
It is important that specified PPE protects against known and suspected site hazards.
Protective equipment is selected based on the types, concentrations, and routes of personal exposure
that may be encountered. In situations where the types of materials and possibilities of contact are
unknown or the hazards are not clearly identifiable, a more subjective determination must be made
of the PPE required, and greater emphasis is placed on experience and sound safety practices. As
discussed above, PPE for site workers will be based on site history and on the activities to be
performed there.
Most field work can be conducted from a baseline PPE Level D. Level D consists of the following:
• Work clothes
• Work gloves - appropriate for task or as noted in the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
• Protective toed boots
• Safety glasses
• Hard hat when near heavy equipment or other overhead hazards
• Reflective vest
• Hearing protection
If air monitoring produces data to suggest that our field employees are exposed at or above
permissible/recommended exposure limits, the site will be reevaluated for Level C PPE.
Level C consists of the following:
• Air-purifying respirator equipped with an appropriate chemical protective cartridge
• Tyvek (or equivalent) chemical-protective clothing
• Nitrile inner and outer gloves
• Chemical-resistant boots
• Hard hat while near heavy equipment or other overhead hazards
Level B or Level A work:
No work on Level B or Level A may occur without the express consent and involvement of the
Corporate H&S Manager. There are no exceptions to this rule.
PPE requirements are subject to change as site information is updated or changes.
25
