wood.
Secondary Containment Assessment
Tank Name/marking: Tank No. 14, 1,000 Gal.
ConVault Waste Oil Tank
The secondary containment calculations provided for on this page are for secondary
containment systems that utilize a double-walled tank for containment.
ConVault tank is double-walled. No additional secondary containment is required.
Design of tank 66265.193(e)(3):
The primary tank is welded 10-gauge steel encased in geomembrane and concrete and
rests on concrete support legs. The primary tank exterior is insulated with a minimum of
% inch thick Styrofoam covered (wrapped) by a 30-mil high density polyethylene
geomembrane which provides secondary containment. The tank includes an integrated
leak detection tube that allows monitoring for leaks from the primary tank into the
secondary containment. The leak detection chamber is checked as part of routine
monitoring and maintenance.
The geomembrane is covered by 6 inches of concrete reinforced with Y2-inch rebar to
provide fire protection and ballistic and vehicle impact protection.
The 30-mil high density polyethylene membrane also prevents external corrosion to the
primary tank. The piping between the sump table and pump is equipped with a
filter/cleanout to protect the pump. Water that may accumulate in the primary tank via
condensation is removed with the oil when the tank contents are collected for recycling
approximately every week. The frequent recycling process minimizes internal tank
corrosion.
Visual observation of containment area 66265.66265.193(f):
Provide a brief description of the condition of the tank. The tank system has spill control.
The tank is filled using attached/dedicated piping from the sump table. The piping is
visually inspected for leaks on a daily basis; the piping system is only pressurized during
operation. The tank is fitted with a level gauge that is monitored visually to prevent
overfilling. The tank and sump table system are maintained within an area surrounded
by a 4-inch-high concrete curb and covered by a canopy. There are no drains within the
curbed area and the tank system is not exposed to precipitation. The secondary
containment system meets the requirements described in 22 CCR §66265.193.
Secondary Containment findings: The secondary containment system is of sufficient
capacity and condition for the containment of releases from all tanks and ancillary
equipment.
