ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND <br /> SAFETY DEPARTMENT <br /> 1T <br /> Tool Box Safety Training <br /> Hazardous Materials <br /> Management <br /> Date : Supervisor : <br /> Time : Shop . <br /> Introduction : A hazardous material is any solid , liquid or gas ; which because of <br /> its quantity , concentration , physical , chemical , or infectious characteristics my <br /> pose a substantial health hazard to humans to the environment when spilled or <br /> released . <br /> Hazardous materials can be found in almost any work area . If you look around <br /> your work area you can probably spot at least one hazardous material that you <br /> come into contact with during the workday . Therefore it is very important that <br /> employees know how to protect themselves when working with or exposed to a <br /> hazardous material . <br /> The goal of this training is to reduce or eliminate on the job accidents and <br /> injuries caused by working with hazardous materials . To minimize the <br /> dangers in the work place follow these precautions : <br /> o Always know the contents of any container you are using and the location <br /> of the Material Safety Data Sheets ( MSDS ) <br /> o Always read the label and MSDS of any material before you use it . <br /> o Always know the correct disposal of any material in your work area . <br /> o Always ensure that containers have their contents marked clearly . <br /> o Always use the proper personal protective equipment ( PPE ) whenever <br /> you are using a hazardous material <br /> o Always store hazardous materials in the proper location or storage areas . <br /> Flammable materials are stored in flammable storage lockers . <br /> Corrosive and acids are stored in Blue chemical storage lockers . <br /> Pesticides are stored in Green pesticide storage lockers . <br /> o Always know the closest location of an emergency eye wash station or <br /> emergency shower station whenever you are working with a hazardous <br /> material . <br /> o Always know the emergency first aid procedures for any chemical you are <br /> using . <br /> Post this sheet on the Safety Bulletin Board <br />
