Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions, Inc. 275 Gal. Waste Antifreeze Tank
Antifreeze is not categorized as a combustible liquid, although there is a
slight to moderate fire hazard when exposed to high heat or flame (auto-
ignition temperature of engine coolant is 750 °F). The HDLPE tank is
located under a canopy in a hazardous waste storage area with warning
signage. Although antifreeze exhibits a flammability hazard when exposed
to high heat, ignition of ambient temperature ethylene glycol vapors
through electrostatic discharge is improbable; lightning protection
(grounding rod) is not required.

The tank was delivered new and fully assembled to the site in September
2011. The tank is estimated to have an approximate 10-15 year service
life. The tank manufacturer provided a 3-year warranty for this tank.

The tank is bounded by a building on the west and further protected from
vehicular traffic by a series of bollards and attached metal railings on the
north and east sides.

Piping and ancillary equipment (pumps) 66265.192(k)(2)(C&D):
Piping Material of Construction: 3/4-inch, rubber, hydraulic hose
(discharge line) and 3/4-inch textile-braided, rubber hose (suction line);
exact hose specifications are unknown, but the hosing is consistent with
industry standards and shows no signs of swelling or cracking.

Piping Diameter: 3/4-inch hosing, 1/2-inch rigid piping

Pump location(s): The pump is rigidly mounted (bolted) to a shelf which
is bolted on a horizontal support rail between two bollards along the east
side of the Accumulation Area. The suction line on the pump is used to
empty waste antifreeze from portable containers or EMD, AG, and FS
service trucks. The waste antifreeze is conveyed via rigid piping mounted
along the railing to the tank. Near the tank, the rigid piping connects to
flexible hosing which extends into the tank. The elevation/slope of the
piping provides antisiphon protection.

Pump type(s)/capacities: A 1/2-inch, pneumatic-driven, double-
diaphragm pump (ARO Corp.) rated at 13 gpm (max.) is used to empty
portable containers and service trucks.

Material Storage 66265.192(k)(8):
Material and characteristics: The material is waste antifreeze from EMD,
AG, and FS maintenance activities. It is classified as a hazardous waste
due to toxicity. The waste antifreeze is classified as a non-RCRA
hazardous waste, liquid (ethylene glycol solutions).

Specific Gravity: 1.1 to 1.4
Operating Capacity: 275-gallons
