TZ_
I ,A" RF\CI_. 003044.01
_\SSO( A l LL,
ENGINEERING GEOLOGY
April 30, 2007 CIVIL ENGINEERING
GROUND-WATER HYDROLOGY
Mr. Todd A. Del Frate
California Regional Water Quality Control Board,
Central Valley Region
11020 Sun Center Drive 9200
Rancho Cordova, CA 95670-6114
Dear Mr. Del Frate:
SUBJECT: SITE INSPECTION REPORT,NEENAH PAPER COMPANY,INC'S RIPON MILL,
RIPON,SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY,CALIFORNIA
Introduction
This letter presents the results of a site inspection performed on April 24, 2007, at the Neenah
Paper Company mill located at 942 South Stockton Avenue, Ripon, California (Figure 1). The
purpose of the inspection was to (1) determine the current state of the facility's active and
inactive sludge disposal cells, plant-process water treatment and irrigation system, stormwater
collection and distribution system, and monitoring-well network; (2) propose solutions to any
identified problems; and (3) provide a schedule for implementing any proposed corrective action
activities.
Findings
The active and inactive sludge ponds are in good repair and do not require maintenance.
Overflow ponds 1 through 4 are generally in good repair. Ponds 3 and 4 have developed minor
gullies on their sidewalls and cattails and weeds are growing in the bottoms of ponds 1, 3, and 4.
The retention capacity of the ponds, however, is not significantly diminished by either the
sediments or by the vegetation.
The plant process water treatment systems (clarifier, aeration stabilization basins ASB-1 and
ASB-2, and irrigation distribution system) are in good repair and functioning properly.
The monitoring-well network is in good repair and does not require maintenance.
The production wells are in good repair, are functioning properly, and do not require
maintenance.
2001 Market Street Room 523 Redding,California 96001 0 (530)244-9703 fax(530)244-5021 • info@lwrnc.com
