Additionally, the monthly reports for the effluent
discharge, dated 15 December 2000 and submitted by Mr. Pat Mickelson, Mill Manager, have also been
reviewed and are found to be in compliance with the Waste Discharge Requirements.
The Monitoring Report Compliance Checklist for the above referenced groundwater monitoring report is
attached. Please review the checklist and the comments. Following is a summary of comments
regarding 2nd-Quarter 2000 Ground-Water Monitoring Results for Fox River Paper Company's Ripon
Facility, Ripon, California:
1. The well recovery times were not recorded in the field sampling notes. As I indicated in my
letter of 7 September 2000, this data should still be collected and submitted with the quarterly
reports.
2. The report indicates that three casing volumes are now being collected from each monitoring
well prior to sampling. Please ensure that the purge and sampling records are included in the
appendices. Field parameters should be monitored and recorded during purging to ensure
uniformity of sampling technique.
3. The analytical laboratory has indicated that some samples were received after the holding time
for pH analyses. This essentially invalidates the laboratory pH results. Please ensure that
samples are received by the laboratory within the necessary time frame.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me at (916) 255-3137.
WENDY ARANO
Associate Engineering Geologist
Attachments
CC.
