Mr, Dennis Abrahson
• Attachment A
January 17 , 1992
Simpson Paper Company
PROPOSAL FOR SERVICES
ANALYSIS OF EFFLUENT DISPOSAL TO SEMI-PERCHED ZONE
ON ADJACENT AND UNDERLYING AQUIFERS
Introduction
Following a meeting with the Regional Water Quality Control Board
(Central Valley Office) and Simpson Paper Company, the Board
indicated the regional ground-water evaluation by Lawrence &
Associates did not address the impacts of effluent disposal to
the semi-perched zone on adjacent and underlying aquifers.
Subsequent to this meeting Lawrence & Associates prepared a work
plan (December 17 , 1991) to (1) help in the reduction of TDS
reaching the production aquifers, (2) analyze the impacts of
effluent disposal on local aquifers, and (3) determine a TDS
level of effluent disposal that might be acceptable to the Board.
Following a meeting at Simpson Paper Company in Ripon on January
8 , 1992 , the above plan was discussed and changes recommended.
These changes were incorporated into a revised work plan, dated
January 10, 1992 , and submitted to Simpson.
Major items of the revised work plan consisted of:
(1) Abandonment of Wells 1 and 3 .
(2) Drilling new production Wells 5 and 6.
(3) Drilling 4 deep monitoring wells (2 wells screened in
the "Intermediate" zone and 2 wells screened in the
"Lower" zone) .
(4) Computer-simulation model of ground-water flow and TDS
movement between the "Semi-perched, " "Upper, " "Intermediate, " and
"Lower" aquifer zones.
1
