GROUNDWATER MONITORING PROGRAM
CCR Title 27, Subtitle D, Article 1, §20385 requires that dischargers of wastes to waste
management units institute the following, as appropriate.
The groundwater monitoring program shall consist of the following:
The water level in each monitoring well shall be measured quarterly consistent with Title 27,
§20415(e) (15). Groundwater contour maps, showing the direction and magnitude of the
groundwater gradient in the uppermost aquifer beneath the site, will be prepared based on the
data.
Quarterly monitoring wells OB-1, 013-2, OB-4, OB-5, OB-7, OB-8, OB-11, OB-17, OB-19, OB-
21, OB-22, 013-24, OB-25, 013-26, and OB-28 will be analyzed for depth to groundwater, EC,
TDS, and nitrate as nitrogen.
Annually, monitoring wells 013-1, 013-2, OB-4, OB-5, OB-7, OB-8, OB-11, OB-17, 013-19, OB-
21, OB-22, OB-24, OB-25, OB-26, and OB-28 and production wells PW-6 through PW-8 will be
analyzed for depth to groundwater, EC, TDS, and nitrate as nitrogen, boron, calcium, chloride,
iron, magnesium,manganese, nitrogen,potassium, sodium, sulfate, total alkalinity(including
alkalinity series), and hardness.
5. MONITORING EQUIPMENT
The following discusses the monitoring equipment to be used for monitoring groundwater.
5.1 WELL PURGING AND SAMPLING
All wells (except wells PW-6 through PW-8, which have dedicated submersible pumps)will be
purged with an Enviro-Tech ES-60 1.875-inch PVC pump set up to 20 feet below the surface of
the groundwater. Prior to sampling, each well will be purged of three casing volumes of water or
until field parameters stabilize. Purged water from all other wells will be disposed by direct
discharge to the ground surface and allowed to infiltrate/evaporate.
5.2 WATER LEVEL INDICATOR
A Waterline Water Level Meter, Model 75 or equivalent, will be used to collect depth to
groundwater. The Model 75 Water Level Meter uses a 3/8-inch stainless steel segmented probe
attached to a permanently marked polyethylene tape, fitted on a well-balanced reel. It is powered
by a standard 9-volt battery housed in an easy-access battery drawer. The conductors embedded
within the tape each have seven strands of stainless steel for strength and flexibility.
The probe incorporates an insulating gap between electrodes. When contact is made with water,
the circuit is completed, activating a loud buzzer and a light. The water level is then determined
by taking a reading directly from the tape at the top of the well casing or borehole.
5.3 FIELD PARAMETER METERS
To assure a representative sample is collected, field parameters are measured as groundwater is
purged from each well. A sample of groundwater will be collected once the measurements of
field parameters have stabilized to a relatively constant level (+/- 10%). The parameters that are
required by the MRP and Title 27, California Code of Regulations, Section 20415(e)(13) include
temperature, turbidity, pH, and electrical conductivity.
010107.03 Lawrence&Associates
W.1CLIENTSIDiamond Pet Foods1010107.01-Groundwater Moniforing4Groundwatcr Monitoringl20l212012 Sampling and Analysis Plan.doca
