REPORT OF WASTE DISCHARGE- APPENDIX D
Diamond Pet Food Processors of Ripon,LLC June 30,2011
Report of Waste Discharge—Antidegradation Analysis Page 12 of 14
Figures 21, 22, and 23 show results for 10 years after the cogen ceases operation as a water-cooled
facility, and does not provide distilled water to Diamond for dilution. Figures 24, 25, and 26 show
results for 10 years after the cogen ceases operation as a water-cooled facility, but does continue to
provide distilled water to Diamond for dilution.
Assuming no cogen distilled water to the Diamond operation, the discharge from ASB-2 would be
about 159,000 gpd at a TDS of about 660 mg/L. For this scenario, the model predicts that the
semiperched and upper aquifers would be in compliance with their respective WQPS (Figures 21
and 22). The model predicts that the intermediate aquifer would remain out of compliance with the
WQPS,but the concentrations would be lower than with the cogen operating, with much of the
aquifer beneath the site showing a TDS between 600 and 700 mg/L (as opposed to 700 to 800 mg/L
with the cogen).
Assuming that the cogen continues to provide distilled water to the Diamond operation, the
discharge from ASB-2 would be about 217,500 gpd at a TDS of about 483 mg/L. For this scenario,
the model predicts that the semiperched and upper aquifers would be in compliance with their
respective WQPS (Figures 24 and 25). The model predicts similar results for the intermediate
aquifer as with no distilled water from the cogen.
Running the model for another 10 years with the cogen distilled water inflow shows continued
improvement in the water quality in all aquifers. At the end of the 20 year modeling period, the
semiperched aquifer shows at TDS of about 400 mg/L or less beneath site, the upper aquifer shows
TDS between 500 and 600 mg/L beneath most of the site, and the intermediate aquifer shows TDS
of about 600 mg/L.
Thus, the modeling predicts that, under the various scenarios modeled, the semiperched and upper
aquifers would be in compliance with their respective WQPS, while the intermediate aquifer would
remain out of compliance, although showing improving quality. The net mass of TDS to the
semiperched aquifer would be almost 10 times less than the levels imparted from the operation of the
previous paper mill plus cogen (about 9001bs/day vs. the previous 8,000 lbs/day).
COSTS,BENEFITS, & SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACTS OF ALTERNATIVES FOR
MAINTAINING EXISTING WATER QUALITY
Three alternatives are considered herein No Project, Operation with Lined Ponds, or the Proposed
Project.
010070.00, Task I Lawrence&Associates
w:I clients)diamond pet foods1010107.00-ripon rowdldiamondpet_rowdjune2011_draft.docx
