The highest concentrations were <br /> found in sample OU3-S1-S-0/1; in other samples the concentrations were lower, or not detected <br /> at concentrations exceeding analytical reporting limits. Similar to the observed pattern of lead <br /> and arsenic concentrations in the OU-3 borings, the concentrations of TPH found in surface soil <br /> samples were higher than those in the deeper soil samples. This suggests that the TPH, lead <br /> and arsenic impact in OU-3 is limited to surface soils. The concentrations of TPH, lead and <br /> arsenic in sample 0U3-S1-S-0/1 (a surface soil sample) were one to two orders of magnitude <br /> higher than concentrations in other samples in OU-3. <br /> 5.6 Operable Unit 4 <br /> Four borings were advanced to evaluate the potential chemical impact associated with railcar <br /> operations in OU-4. Four borings were advanced, with two soil samples collected from each <br /> tboring. The soil samples collected from OU-4 were analyzed for lead, arsenic, TPHd, TPHmo, <br /> and sample 0L14-S-1-0/1 was analyzed also for VOCs and SVOCs. The analytical results are <br /> ' summarized in Table 10. <br /> Total lead concentrations in four samples (one from each boring) equaled or exceeded the <br /> residential PRG and CHHSL values but did not exceed the industrial PRG or CHHSL values. In <br /> only two of the four borings were the highest lead concentrations found in the surface soil <br /> samples. With the exception of sample OU4-S-4-0/1, which contained arsenic at a concentration <br /> of 13 mg/kg, arsenic concentrations were consistent with those found in other areas of the <br /> Railyard. <br /> TPH compounds were detected in samples from each of the four borings. The highest <br /> concentrations were detected in shallow soil samples collected from Borings OU4-S2 and <br /> ' OU4-S3. <br /> 5.7 Operable Unit 5 <br /> As described in Section 2, the subsurface investigation in OU-5 had several objectives. <br /> Investigation methods included advancing soil borings, excavating trenches and test pits, and <br /> collecting soil and groundwater samples. Soil samples were collected and analyzed to <br /> characterize the distribution of lead and arsenic in shallow soil, and to further assess the lateral <br /> extent of TPH previously observed by Geocon in AOI 10. <br /> 5.7.1 Soil Borings in OU-5 <br /> A total of 30 borings were advanced in OU-5. Two samples were collected from each boring, <br /> one surface sample and one sample from approximately 2 feet bgs, and submitted for analysis <br /> of arsenic and total lead.
