Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
6.2.3.1 TPH in AOI 4
Three soil borings were advanced in AOI 4 to assess the potential impact associated with three
former ponds. All three borings contained elevated concentrations of TPH at more than one
i sampling interval.
6.2.3.2 TPH in AOI 5
Four soil borings were advanced in AOI 5 to assess the potential impact associated with the
former oil tank and associated pipelines. Elevated concentrations of TPH were found in the
shallow soil samples from each of the four soil borings. One soil sample collected from a depth
of 10 feet bgs in AOI 5 contained elevated concentrations of TPH.
6.2.3.3 TPH in AOI 6
Five soil borings were advanced in AOI 6 to assess the potential impact of the former
roundhouse. All five soil borings contained elevated concentrations of TPH in one or more
sampling intervals.
6.2.3.4 TPH in AOI 7
Five soil borings were advanced in AOI 7 to assess the potential impact of former support
operations. One of the soil borings contained elevated concentrations of TPH at a depth of
10 feet bgs. Low concentrations of TPH were detected in samples from the other four borings in
AOI 7.
Although the reconnaissance groundwater sample collected from AOI 7 contained elevated
concentrations of TPH, this sample was not collected from the boring which contained elevated
TPH in soil at a depth of 10 feet bgs.
6.2.3.5 TPH in AOI 8
Two soil borings were advanced in AOI 8 to assess the potential impact of the railroad tracks.
One of the two soil borings contained elevated concentrations of TPH in the surface soil sample.
6.2.4 Groundwater
A total of four reconnaissance groundwater samples were collected from OU-2, one from each
of AOI 4 through AOI 7. The four samples were submitted for analysis of TPHd, TPHmo and
VOCs. The four groundwater samples contained TPHd at concentrations ranging from 130 pg/1
to 2,000 pg/l. Only one of the four samples contained TPHmo at concentrations exceeding
analytical reporting limits. Similarly, only one sample contained any VOCs at concentrations
exceeding analytical reporting limits. The reconnaissance groundwater sample collected from
AOI 7 contained 2,000 pg/I of TPHd, 1,900 pg/1 of TPHmo and 0.61 pg/I of PCE.
The analytical results indicate that TPH is present in groundwater across OU-2, with the highest
concentrations found in the sample collected from AOI 7 (the former operations support area).
On the basis of the analytical results, VOCs are not considered chemicals of interest in
groundwater in OU-2.
DRAFT Phase I Remedial Investigation Report Page 41
Former Tracy Railyard, Tracy, California
g:\is-group\admin)o6\05\0565777.1 8_uprr\09-reports\d rpl\lext.doc
