12 August 2009
AGE-NC Project No. 08-1633
samples collected from boring B8, which is approximately sixty feet from the suspected
source area. The lateral extent of impacted soil is not defined east of the AST area.
• The vertical extent of TPH-d impacted soil is not currently defined in the immediate area of
the dispenser islands as well as to the east of the release area, as illustrated in Figure 3.
• Free-phase product(diesel)was present in grab ground water samples collected from borings
B3 and B6. Near pure product (98% TPH-d) was present in the ground water sample
collected from boring. The free-product phase appeared concentrated above the water table
and was generally emulsified with the water after the sample was collected.
• The vertical and lateral extent of TPH-d impact to ground water is not defined in all
directions surrounding the suspected source area.
Additional lateral and vertical assessment will be required to determine the extent of impacted soil
and ground water.
5.0. RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the findings of the environmental activities recounted in this report, AGE recommends:
• Performance of additional site assessment of soil and groundwater at the site.Additional soil
and ground water sampling will be required to determine the lateral and vertical extent of
impacts.
• Source removal of the impacted soil. In an effort to reduce continual leaching to ground
water and the lateral migration of contaminants, a limited excavation of the area in the
immediate vicinity of the release is warranted to remove the significantly-impacted soil.
6.0. LINIITATIONS
Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordinarily exercised by
environmental consultants practicing in this or similar localities.Findings were based upon analytical
results provided by an independent laboratory. Evaluation of the geologic and hydrogeologic
conditions at the site for the purpose of this investigation was made from a limited number of
available data points(i.e.,soil and groundwater samples)and subsurface conditions may vary away
from these data points. No other warranty, expressed or implied, is made as to the professional
interpretations, opinions, and recommendations contained in this report.
Advanced GeoEnvironn ental,Inc.
