J .I
APPENDIX D
ADSORBED MASS-VOLUME CALCULATIONS -POST REMEDIATION
Former FISCO WAREHOUSE (Howard Lenz Property)
1648 Shaw Road, Stockton, California
Assumptions:
• Utilizing Figures 4 through 8, the mass distribution of total petroleum hydrocarbon
concentrations remaining on-site post soil vapor extraction (SVE) remediation can be
approximated utilizing three zones composed of two frustum cone shapes and one wedge
shape.
• Much of the vadose zone hydrocarbon-impacted soil south of the former UST area (in the
area of confirmation boring P2 and dual-completed well MWNW-2) was remediated
through SVE remediation as evidenced by the non-detection of target analytes(e.g., TPH-g
and TPH-d) in any of the ten soil samples analyzed from confirmation boring P2.
Confirmation boring locations are shown on Figure 2.
The volume of a frustum cone can be calculated by the formula:
Vfrustum—'/3 n [h (R2 +rR+ r')]
Where, `h'is the height of the cone; `R' is the larger radius;and `r' is the smaller radius of the cone.
The frustum cones are depicted on Figure 4;the radii of the frustum cones were determined utilizing
Figures 5 through 8.
The volume of a wedge can be calculated by the formula:
Vwedge^ 1/2. (bxhx1)
Where, `b'is the base of the wedge; `h' is the height of the wedge; and`1' is the length of the wedge.
The wedge is depicted on Figure 4; the base and length of the wedge were determined utilizing
Figure 7.
Remaining Gasoline:
Concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline(TPH-g)reported in soil vapor
extraction(SVE) confirmation boring P-1 between the depths of 10 feet and 30 feet below surface
grade(bsg)were used to determine average TPH-g concentration within the frustum cone(for 35 feet
bsg, data from wells/boring MW-1,MW-9 and B-3 were used). Additionally, at depths where P-1
soil samples contained concentrations higher than pre-remediation data, 20 feet and 30 feet bsg,
analytical data from borings B-1 and B-3 were incorporated into the average TPH-g concentration.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
