r
Soil Vapor Extraction Report - Fourth Quarter 2008
Former FISCO WAREHOUSE (Howard Lenz Property)
1648 Shaw Road, Stockton, California
1.0. INTRODUCTION
At the request of Mr.Peter Lenz on behalf of Mrs.Alice G.Lenz,Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
(AGE)has prepared this soil vapor extraction(SVE)quarterlyreport for the property located at 1648
Shaw Road, Stockton, California. The site and surrounding area are illustrated on Figure 1.
Structures, boring, and well locations are illustrated on Figure 2. Site background information is
provided in Appendix A.
The scope of work performed during the fourth quarter 2008 included rebound testing of a SVE
remediation system and preparation of this report.
2.0. PROCEDURES
Remediation system installation and monitoring was conducted in accordance with the Interim
Remedial Action Plan (IRAP),dated 30 September 2005 and approved with conditional changes by
the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD)in a letter dated 06 October 2005.
On 30 May 2008, the SVE unit was taken off-line for an EHD-approved "rebound"period. On 27
October 2008,after approximately 5 months of SVE cessation, the SVE system was brought on-line
for rebound testing to determine if hydrocarbon concentrations in soil vapor remain at or below
detection limits. Rebound testing ended on 17 December 2008, and the SVE system was taken
off-line.
2.1. SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM OPERATION AND MONITORING
The SVE unit consists of: 1) an 85-gallon moisture knockout vessel, 2) a 200 cubic feet per minute
(CFM) positive displacement (PD) lobe blower, and 3) two 2,000-1b granular activated carbon
(GAC) vessels for adsorption of contaminants of concern (COC) entrained in the air stream. The
SVE unit is connected to three dual-completed SVE wells via a manifold network of 2-inch
subsurface PVC pipes extending from the SVE wells to the moisture knockout drum.
Sampling ports were installed upstream of the moisture knockout chamber, between the blower and
the carbon vessels, between the carbon vessels, and downstream of the carbon vessels. The sampling
port located between the blower and the carbon vessels and the sampling port downstream of the
carbon vessels are utilized to recover influent and effluent SVE air flow samples used to monitor the
efficiency of hydrocarbon removal. Additionally, the influent and effluent streams are monitored
routinely for the presence of organic vapors using an organic vapor meter(OVM) equipped with a
photo-ionization detector(e.g. Thermo Environmental 580; 10.0 eV; calibrated to isobutylene).
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
