Preliminary Endangerment Assessment Page 6
Former Haley's Flying Service
GPE Project 474.2
cleaned between uses. The sample material was transferred from the bailer to laboratory-
supplied 1-liter amber glass bottles provided by the laboratory. Each sample container was
then labeled and immediately transferred to a cooler chilled with water ice for transport to the
laboratory under chain-of-custody.
After collecting the final sample, each boring was filled to grade with Class G neat cement
under the supervision of a San Joaquin County Department of Environmental Health
inspector, Mr. Harlin Knoll.
The on-site domestic water well was sampled from a tap located at the loading dock. The
valve was opened and the water was allowed to flow for several minutes so that the piping
and well tubing would be purged, and fresh formation water allowed to enter, and be
collected. The sample was collected directly into a 1-liter sample container, which then was
treated in the same manner as the other samples.
Upon retrieval, each groundwater sample was transported to Argon Laboratories of Ceres,
CA for analytical testing. Argon forwarded the samples to McCampbell Labs, and this
laboratory performed the following analysis:
0 Organo-chlorine pesticides by EPA method 8081B
The specific chemicals and their reporting limits are listed in the Summary Table 1 and in the
laboratory data sheets in Appendix A.
3.2 Waste Disposal
About 15 to 20 gallons of decon water from washing sample equipment was containerized in
an appropriate DOT container. The water contains 1.4 ppb of Endosulfan Il and 0.75 ppb of
Endosulfan sulphate. The water will be allowed to evaporate. No waste soil cuttings were
generated during the Power-ProbeTM drilling process.
3.3 Documentation
A general field log was maintained during the fieldwork, and soil boring logs were
maintained of each boring. Notes were made of the date and time of the work, the personnel
on site, the general weather, and the sequence and time of significant field events.
Photographs supplemented the log information. Photocopies of the field notes are attached
as Appendix D. Site photos are attached as Appendix C, and boring logs are attached as
Appendix B.
3.4 Summary of Groundwater Analytical Results
As shown in Summary Table 1, and the text table below, organo-chlorine pesticides were
detected in three of the six groundwater samples collected from the soil borings. Three of the
soil boring samples and the domestic water well sample did not contain detectable organo-
chlorine pesticides. The principal contaminants are Toxaphene and the chemicals of the
Endosulfan sub-group. One sample also contained a trace of Endrin.
2937 Veneman Avenue,Suite B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc. Phone: (209)569-0293
Modesto,Ca 95356 Fax: (209)569-0295
