Work Plan—PEA Page 5
Former Haley Flying Service
GPE Project 474.2
by methods described in the original Work Plan. The specific chemicals and their reporting
limits are listed in the original Work Plan.
As described above, soil samples will be collected for possible analytical testing at the
surface and at the 5-foot level. These samples from at least the first row of borings (B-9 to
B-11), will be tested for organo-chlorine pesticides by EPA method 8081B, should any
contaminants of concern be detected in the groundwater sample from the respective boring.
Additional sample material from at least one of the borings will also be tested for
geotechnical characteristics as follows:
• Total Nitrogen(TKN)
• Total Phosphorus
• Total Phosphorus
• Total Organic Carbon
• Acidity (pH)
• Moisture Content
• Hetrophic Bacterial Plate Count
Soil sample(s) from the boring located near the washout pit (shown as B-18 in Figure 2) will
be similarly tested.
2.5 Groundwater Monitoring Well Sampling and Assessment
The hollow stem auger soil borings will be sampled at 5-foot intervals for geological and
possible analytical evaluation using a 2.0-inch diameter by 1.5-foot long (i.d.) hammer driven
California Split Spoon sampling device fitted with three 2 by 6 inch brass or stainless steel
liners. The soil sample collection procedure will be as follows: The ends of one sample tube
removed from the split spoon (generally, the lowest one) will be sealed with Teflon sheets,
capped with plastic end caps, secured with tape, labeled and placed in a cooler packed with
water ice at 4° Celsius for transport to the laboratory using Chain of Custody protocol. All
reusable soil sampling equipment will be decontaminated between uses by washing using a
steam cleaner. Nitrile gloves will be worn during sample collection and changed between the
collection of each sample. A detailed log will be made of each boring as described in the
original Work Plan.
2.6 Monitoring Well Construction
After drilling, the borings designated MW-1 to MW-3 (or 4) will be converted to monitoring
wells. They will be cased with 2.0-inch diameter; schedule 40 PVC casing with flush
threaded joints. The screened intervals will consist of 0.010-inch, machine-slotted schedule
40 PVC pipe. The casing will include a 10-foot slotted interval extending from total depth of
18 feet to 8 feet. Number three sand will be used to form a filter pack about the perforations
and extending two feet above the screened interval. A transition seal will be constructed by
2937 Veneman Avenue, Suite B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc. Phone: (209)569-0293
Modesto, Ca 95356 Fax: (209)569-0295
