This Workplan describes the scope of services requested
by Caltrans and outlines procedures and methods to be employed by Geocon to complete the project.
PROJECT LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
The project site consists of proposed highway improvements at 2500 East SR-132 in the Vernalis
area of San Joaquin County, California. The Site contains an abandoned service station building,
concrete pad supporting a fuel pump island, a metal aboveground storage tank(AST) and associated
filler pipe. Diesel fuel is thought to have been used at the station. A buried septic tank is also thought
to be onsite. The approximate project location and area of investigation are depicted on the Vicinity
Map, Figure 1 and Site Plan, Figure 2.
BACKGROUND
The following background is based on information provided to Geocon by Caltrans.
The results of an Initial Site Assessment (ISA) prepared by Caltrans identified an abandoned service
station located at 2500 East SR-132, San Joaquin County, California. The service station is within
the new Caltrans right of way on the south side of SR-132.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the scope of services outlined in the subject TO is to determine the potential presence
of hydrocarbons and/or heavy metals contamination in the soil and to determine if buried
underground storage tanks (USTs), piping or other structures are present. The contaminants of
concern at the Site include oil and grease (O&G), total petroleum hydrocarbons as motor oil (TPHmo),
total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd) and Title 22 metals. The proposed area of investigation
is depicted on Figure 2. An estimate of the extent of potential site contamination is necessary prior to
highway construction in order to determine approximate removal and disposal costs and to reduce risks
to workers and to public health.
11375 Sunrise Park Drive, Suite 100 0 Rancho Cordova,California 95742 0 Telephone(916) 852-9118 0 Fax(916) 852-9132
