DESCRIPTION OF LATEST WORK PERFORMED
Since February, water elevations in monitoring wells 1-4 were measured
twice a month. This data is presented in tabular form in Appendix
A, page A-1. For each day that a set of elevations was obtained,
the data was plotted on a map and the groundwater flow direction
was determined. This data indicates that the groundwater generally
flows northeast to northwest. However, a consistent flow direction
and gradient has not yet been identified. This may be due to local
pumping effects, seasonal effects, or other reasons. In order to
obtain more extensive data on the groundwater direction and gradient,
and to help identify the extent of the salt contamination plume,
five monitoring wells were installed on May 10 and 11, 1988. The
locations of these wells are shown in the map on page 3.
Monitoring Well Construction
All five wells were installed with the use of an eight inch,
hollow-stem, continuous-flight auger. The wells are constructed
of 2" schedule 40 PVC with threaded joints. They are screened from
10' to 30' with factory perforated 0.020" slots. The annular space
extending from the bottom of the well to three feet above the screen
is packed with a #3 Lonestar sand. The next two feet above the sand
is filled with a bentonite plug and the remaining five feet is grouted
with a bentonite/cement slurry.
Well Logging and Development
Experienced personnel performed the well logging under the supervision
of a registered civil engineer. Copies of the well logs are located
in Appendix B, page B-1. Well development was accomplished by Spectrum
Drilling using a surge block and bailer. Specific details of this
procedure are provided in the letter from Spectrum Drilling located
in Appendix C, page C-1.
2
