between upper and possible lower aquifers, the casing will be sealed
with a bentonite plug from two feet (2' ) below the impervious strata
to two feet (2' ) above that strata. San Joaquin County monitoring
well standards will be followed.
TASK II
1. Twelve ( 12) soil borings will be made around the evaporation ponds
as shown on Exhibit 2, page 9. Drilling will be to groundwater
plus two feet (2'±). Samples will be taken at two feet (2'±)
and six feet (6'±) above the water table and also at approximately
one foot(1' ) below the water table. Field evaluation of the
electrical conductivity of the water in each bore hole will be
performed. Soil samples will be taken from the continuous cores
and analyzed for chlorides.
All bore holes will be sealed in the presence of San Joaquin Local
Health District staff using a bentonite/cement slurry.
2. Elevations will be established at the top of each boring so that
the elevation relative to sea level can be applied to the strata
identified by the continuous core samples.
3. After the wells are developed, they will be sampled and measured
for electrical conductivity and elevation of the groundwater (twice
monthly during July, August, September, and October).
4. All data will be compiled on a monthly basis and shown graphically
and in tabular form.
5. A report compiling all of the accumulated data to that time will
be prepared by October 15, 1988.
6. A Water Quality Impact Report will be prepared by November 1,
1988. The report will cover the impacts on the aquifer at the
Southwest Hide Company property and local vicinity including local
groundwater management options for water quality modification
to meet state and local criteria.
7. Subchapter 15 informational requirements will be completed by
November, 1988.
Depending on the tentative waste discharge requirements, it may be
necessary to provide additional work under a Task III work description.
Exhibit 3, page 10 following provides a graphic exhibit showing the
time schedule for the proposed work.
7
