CHAPTER 5 . USE CLASSIFICATION SECTION 9-3300 . USE TYPES . The uses listed in the use chapter of each zone are either Standard Industrial Classification ( SIC ) uses or Planning Code uses . (a ) An SIC use is a use category appearing in the 1972 Standard Industrial Classification Manual as amended, which describes an activi!y. ( 1 ) SIC uses are arranged according to a four-digit, three-digit, or two-digit code hierarchy. All uses included within a four-digit SIC use are included within a three-digit SIC use . All uses included within a three-digit SIC use are included within a two-digit SIC use . ( 2 ) All uses included within a two-digit, three digit, or a four-digit SIC use that is permitted or con- ditionally permitted in a zone are, in like manner , peritted or conditionally permitted in that zone . ( 3 ) Explanations of SIC uses and a detailed listing of uses contained within an SIC use are provided in the 1972 Standard Industrial Classification Manual as amended. ( 4 ) Examples of typical uses contained within an SIC use are provided in Chapter 3 of this Division. (b) A Planning Code use is a use category, not appearing in the 1972 Standard Industrial Classification Manual, as amended, which describes an activity. SECTION 9-3301. SELECTION OF USE TYPE. An activity per- mitted or conditionally permitted in a zone shall be described by an SIC use. However , a Planning Code use or structure definition, as specified in Chapter 6 , shall be used to describe an activity if the Planning Division is unable to find an SIC use which describes the activity, or if the Planning Commission determines that the SIC use which includes the activity does not adequately describe or indicate the nature of the activity. (a ) Whenever any new Planning Code use or structure defini- tion is proposed for inclusion in the use chapter of a zone, or whenever the Planning Commission determines that a Planning Code use or structure definition is necessary to describe an activity, the Planning Division shall pre- pare a report and recommendation on the Planning Code use to the Planning Commission. (b) The Planning Division shall prepare a definition of the proposed Planning Code use or structure if it considers the definition essential for clarification and the defi- nition shall be added to Chapter 6 . 3 . 54 (May 1, 1985 )
