Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Phase 1 Site Investigation Report
Burlington Brothers (aka San Joaquin Sulfur Co.)
711 N. Sacramento Street
Lodi, CA 95240 SITE CODE: 2040
CONTRACTOR 9: 39000
Dear Ms. Turkatte;
This report will serve to document the Phase I Site Investigation completed as of the above stated
date. The report includes information from soil sampling and groundwater sampling completed under
the direction of this office and the (PHS-EHD).
SOUL SAMPLING
On May, 28, 1996 Spectrum Exploration made a soil boring to a depth of fifty feet below the
location shown on the enclosed map. The boring was done with a standard eight inch hollow stem
auger. Standard BX brass tube samples were driven for every five feet of bore depth. Three samples
were taken at each depth and the tube with the best recovery was selected for laboratory analysis. The
samples were transported under chain of custody to Sherwood Labs of Hilmar, California. The results
of that analysis are summarized on page 3 of this report. A soil boring log was maintained by the
author of this report and is enclosed in the appendix.
The original soil sample analysis report for this soil boring is included in the appendix of this report.
GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELL CONSTRUCTION
A four-inch PVC cased monitoring well was constructed at the location of the soil boring. The soil
was rimmed to twelve inches to receive the sand filter and casing. A bentonite plug and cement slurry
filler were installed as shown on the monitoring well construction diagram enclosed in the appendix.
The monitoring well was developed and purged by Del-Tech Geotechnical Support Services on July
7, 1996 under the direction of the author. The resulting groundwater from the monitoring well was
clear and suitable for sampling.
GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
Del-Tech Geotechnical Support Services extracted a groundwater sample from the monitoring well
after purging the well. The water sample was transported under chain of custody to Sherwood Labs
of Hilmar, California for analysis. A summary of the results of this analysis is shown on page 3 of this
report. A copy of the original analysis report from Sherwood Labs is included in the appendix.
