1
i
pack. The remaining annular space will be grouted to the surface and a
flush-mounted traffic box with a locking lid will be set directly into the
wet grout. Well construction logs will be filled out for each
monitoring well. Well construction specifications are described below.
• The slotted PVC will be four-inch diameter, schedule 40. Length of
the slotted PVC will be determined at each location. The PVC will
be capped on the bottom with a threaded cap and will be flush-
threaded to the casing above.
• The slot size will be either 0.010 or 0.020 inches, depending on the
formations encountered during the soil sampling activities.
• The well casing will be four-inch diameter schedule 40 PVC. It will
be flush-threaded to the screen below and a slip cap will be placed
on top.
• The filter pack will probably consist of clean #30 silica sand, which is
compatible with both 0.010 and 0.020 slot size.
• The well seal will be made with bentonite pellets placed
immediately on top of the filter pack. The remainder of the
annular space will be filled with grout using a tremie.
• The grout mix will comply with existing State of California
regulations.
• The well cover will be a flush-mounted traffic box with a locking lid
set directly into the wet grout. Each well casing will be permanently
inscribed or otherwise marked with a unique identification
number.
Surveying
Following well completion, each new well will be surveyed by a
licensed surveyor to determine its horizontal coordinates and
elevation. If a bench mark is not available, the wells will be referenced
to an arbitrary datum.
Monitoring Well Development
Each completed monitoring well will be developed using a low-
volume, submersible pump. In the event that recharge in the wells is
inadequate for the pump, the wells will be developed with a large
capacity (three-gallon) bailer. Before each well is developed, all
submersible equipment will be decontaminated with an Alconox
4-7
