The command post is always located in the Support Zone. The
command post should serve as the communication center for all
on-site and off-site activities related to the operation.
The location of the command post and other support facilities
in the Support Zone depends on a number of factors, including
the following:
Ac . _gs;hil ; v: land surface characteristics; open space
availability; locations of highways, railroad tracks; or
other limitations.
Wind direction : the support facilities should be
located upwind of the Exclusion Zone . Harmful
materials can be transferred into clean areas, exposing
unprotected personnel . In removing contaminated clothing,
personnel may contact contaminants on the clothing or inhale them.
To prevent such occurrences, methods to reduce contamination and
decontamination procedures must be developed and established
before anyone enters a site and must continue (modified when
necessary) throughout site operations .
10-18
