The maximum VOC levels in Area 1 and
Area 3 were 27 ppb and 157 ppb respectively. The maximum pesticide level in
Area 3 was 0.3 ppb.
The MARK Group concluded that due to the apparently random occurrence of VOCs in the
site's ground water, and due to the unique site-specific features of the island, it
will be necessary to collect additional data prior to assessing the potential
environmental impacts of the ground water contamination. The data gaps identified by
the MARK Group, and which are intended to be answered by the Interim Investigation,
include:
1) Hydraulic continuity between Burns Cutoff and ground water;
2) Effects of storm drains on ground water;
3) Seasonal/tidal effects on ground water and storm drain system;
4) Confirmation of shallow ground water flow;
5) Confirmation of intermediate ground water flow;
