21 March 2006
AGE-NC Project No 97-0290
' sparging wells using 2-inch diameter PVC casing with a 0 020-inch slotted screen SW3 and SW9
were drilled to a total depth of 60 feet bsg with a 2 5-foot screen interval S W4, S W6,and S W8 were
drilled at 25 degrees from vertical to a total depth of 66 feet bsg with a 2 5-foot screen interval SW5
and SW7 were drilled at 10 degrees from vertical to a total depth of 61 feet bsg with a 2 5-foot
screen interval
' On 23 April 2001 ground water monitoring well MW-1 was pressure grouted and abandon in-place
On 19 March 2001, five oxygen release compound (ORC) packages were installed at the site The
' ORC was in tube form within 12-mch sock material Two 12-inch sock packages of ORC were
placed in wells MW-2, MW-4, MW-5, MW-6, and MW-7 by AGE The ORC was installed below
the water table at 55 feet bsg The effect of the IAS system and/or ORC was monitored utilizing a
YSI-55 dissolved oxygen meter on groundwater During each monitoring event, the depth to ground
water and percentage of dissolved oxygen were measured for available monitoring wells
62 SOIL-VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM INSTALLATION/OPERATION
On 13 March 2000,a King,Buck/Hasstech(KBH)thermal oxidation soil-vapor extraction unit was
delivered to the site by AGE Beginning on 09 March 2000, setup of the extraction network system
' was initiated with installation of the electrical power source and the natural gas line
The SVE network was installed connecting wells VW-1 through VW-6 and the SVE unit using
2-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC piping and 2-inch gate valves to control flow from individual
wells The piping was placed above ground
A 3-inch network manifold was constructed and connected to the SVE unit An in-line Dwyer 300
flow meter was installed in the 3-inch influent line into the SVE unit, this meter was monitored
monthly to calculate the influent rate The 3-inch piping was then routed through a moisture
knockout vessel to a 5-horsepower,maximum 100 standard cubic feet per minute(scfm)blower and
into the thermal oxidizer furnace An additional in-line flow meter was located at the flame arrester
within the SVE to measure the total quantity of vapor processed through the SVE system
The KBH thermal SVE system began operation on 19 April 2000 The initiation of the SVE
operation was observed on 19.lune 2000 by representatives of the San Joaquin Unified Air Pollution
Control District(APCD) On 27 February 2001,AGE conducted the demobilization of the thermal
oxidation system from the site The system was removed on that date in preparation for site re-
development
IOn 01 March 2001, AGE installed and performed a start-up of portable carbon-based vapor
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
I
